The purpose of the feeder is to bring product from the hopper and deliver it to the weighing device in a consistent, predictable flow.

If the product is “difficult,” it is sometimes necessary to greatly enlarge the hopper opening. Difficult products might include dry noodles, frozen shrimp, peanuts in the shell, plastic pipe fittings or wrapped candies.

If the finished package weight is small in proportion to the increased volume from the hopper, the flow can be reduced to the desired level by the use of a secondary, or “spreader” feeder. The addition of limit switches, lane gates and even twin spreader feeders for fast and slow speeds is sometimes required, although this level of complexity is rare.

Most dry products are free flowing and can, therefore, be controlled by a single feeder. Since ACTIONPAC has been designing and manufacturing automated weigh systems for 22 years, a look at your product and your packaging requirements is usually sufficient for us to determine what type of feeder system is required.

Of course, we have an advantage; our controller allows us to achieve speeds and accuracies with far less mechanical complexity than other systems.

ACTIONPAC: Engineered to be simple.
